Basics of the French Press

This recipe is intended for a 33 oz or larger French Press.
- 1/2 cup of course ground coffee beans
- 4 Cups water 200°F.
Measure the coffee beans. Measure out the 1/2 cup coffee beans. Any of our Fresh Roasted Blends would be perfect for use in the French press.
Grind the coffee beans. Grind the beans on the coarsest setting in a burr grinder. Although grinding fresh is best, if you don't have a grinder we will course grind any of our fresh roasted coffee blends, just ask when ordering.
Heat the water to boiling, then cool for 1 minute. Heat 4 cups cold water in a stovetop or electric kettle to boiling, then take off the heat for about 1 full minute before making the coffee. Water for French press coffee should be heated to 200°F. If you want to make extra-sure it's the right temperature, use a thermometer to check.
Add the water to the French press. Pour the water gently into French press.
Stir the brew. Stir using an up and down motion. To submerge all grounds into water. Place lid with plunger all the way up, onto the French Press.
Steep for 4 minutes. Let steep for 4 minutes to produce a robust brew. The more you get to know your French press and the flavor you prefer you can tweak the time or amount of coffee and water to brew your perfect cup.
Plunge the press. After 4 minutes, immediately press the plunger all the way to the bottom. Drink the coffee immediately.
To save the left over, immediately remove from French press, as letting it sit in the grounds will make it bitter. You can keep in an insulated carafe for a few hours to enjoy hot or immediately let cool and place in a container with lid and refrigerate to enjoy an iced coffee later.
